Mission 4: Retrieve

After an 8-month hiatus, a welcome return to Nightwatch.

This time out, our pact has been tasked with retrieving a tome, that would reveal the location of a missing artefact.

Our four pact members were joined by the following:

  • 4 D10 Ranged Fighters,
  • 1 D10 Melee Fighter.

Turn 1

Gandwarf and Freddo headed towards to the furthest part of the ruins to search for the errant tome. Gimme and the D10 melee fighter advanced to the centre of the ruins. From here they hoped to defend against any enemies spawning in the ruins.

Elsewhere, Legolan and the ranged fighters took up positions to defend the flanks from any spawning enemies.

Turn 2

Wanting to give everyone time to search, Gimme and melee fighter waded into close combat with a group of zombies and skeleton warriors.

With the enemy distracted, Freddo and Gandwalf started to search the upper levels of the ruins.

At the end of the turn, more zombies spawned and headed to the nearest objective to defend it.

Turn 3

With more zombies and skeleton warriors spawning, the pact was in serious danger of being overrun. Gimme and the melee fighter waded into the nearest group of zombies. Despite their best efforts, the melee fighter was lost in close combat and Gimme found himself surrounded. Only the efforts of Legolan and ranged fighters stopped the dwarf from being lost.

Turn 4

The location of the tome had been identified. Unfortunately, for the pact, the tome was defended by zombies and skeleton warriors.

Again, the ranged fighters came to the fore. Their arrows finding and killing those targeted. On the ground, more magic from Gandwarf managed to eliminate the nearest zombies and skeleton warriors.

This enabled Legolan to climb up and claim the uncontested tome!

Turn 5

With Legolan being in possession of the required tome, the pact changed their approach to ensure Legolan could leave through their deployment area. The ranged fighters did their best to distract and take down the enemy.

Gandwarf cast 'Etherial Flight' on Legolan, which enabled the Elf to fly over the ruins and the watching zombies and skeleton warriors.

Passing all his movement rolls, Legolan was able to leave the table, meaning the pact had won.

Epilogue

A solid victory for the pact. Again, Gandwarf was the star, successfully casting 7 spells and eliminating 12 of the enemy. Freddo, Gimme and Legolan managed to account for 8 of the enemy.

A total of 80 silver was claimed. This was spent on replacing the deceased melee fighter, who was replaced by 2 D8 Melee fighters and 1 D6 melee fighter.

Additionally, the pact found and kept Ruark's Horn and another Token of Protection.
