Hello 2023 and welcome to the Upside Down!

Our first game of 2023 and it's a visit to Hawkins, Indiana. 

This was a game planned for Halloween 2022 (using the Galactic Heroes rules), but got postponed for a number of reasons.

The game was set-up with two sides. On one side was Hawkins PD, led by Hopper, with Eleven as a Specialist and three Deputies (Regulars). They would be up against a Demogorgon (defined as a monster - so five traits used).

The aim of game was fairly simple. Hawkins PD had to escort Dustin, Lucas, Mike, Will and Stevie off the table to safety. For the Demogorgon, it was to send them to the Upside Down by defeating them in Close Combat.

Not wishing to be caught by the Police or the Demogorgon, Dustin, Lucas, Mike, Will and Stevie would move in a random direction (obviously away) at the end of a turn.

Turn 1

Both sides advanced from their respective starting positions. The Demogorgon spotting Will hiding behind the static caravan.


Turn 2

The Demogorgon activated first and attacked Will, sending him back to the Upside Down again!

Hopper and Eleven advanced towards the Demogorgon, both being out of range to attack it. Elsewhere, one of the Deputies escorted Lucas into safety.


Turn 3

Eleven advanced and tried to attack the Demogorgon with her 'Mental Attack'. Unfortunately, she rolled a '1'.

Hopper then activated. He moved into range and fired his pistol. Success! The Demogorgon went down with a wound.

The Demogorgon then activated and successfully passed a Recovery roll.

Turn 4

Activating first this time. The Demogorgon pounced on a nearby Deputy and put him 'Out of Action'.

Hopper then took the opportunity to fire twice at the Demogorgon. The first hit inflicting 'Shock', the second shot inflicting another wound on the Demogorgon.

Elsewhere, Dustin was scorted to safety.

Turn 5

Again, the Demogorgon recovered from a wound. However, the Demogorgon now had more Shock thn wounds and as a result retreated two full moves into cover.

Hopper and Eleven moved to rescue Mike and Stevie.

Turn 6

Sensing that Hopper and Eleven were closing in on a win. The Demogorgon turned around and attacked Hopper in Close Combat. Ignoring wounds in combat, the Demogorgon managed to knock down and wound Hopper.


Turn 7

Hopper failed to make his recovery roll and was removed from the game. Eleven managed to catch up with Stevie.

The Demogorgon chased them down.

Turn 8

The Demogorgon engaged Eleven in close combat and managed to defeat her.

Effectively game over, with Eleven, Stevie and Mike joining Will in the 'Upside Down'.

Epilogue

All in all, a fun game to play and it only took just over an hour to complete. More importantly, it felt like an episode of Stranger Things.

Woohoo, first game of 2024! This time we dived into the 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' scenario book. Picking the first scenario ' The Waterin' Hole ' as the basis for the game. Whilst on a manhunt for the 'Bad Hombres' gang, Marshal Bill and his posse have stopped for some rest and much needed meal. What the Marshal doesn't know is that the 'Bad Hombres' led by Ricardo are about to spring an ambush in the canyon. The posse start surrounding the camp fire. The 'Bad Hombres' start on the high ground in the canyon. Also, they took up the option of  placing a gang member in reserve, with the caveat that he turns up at one end of the canyon within the first three turns. Marshal Bill would get 5 Renown points for killing or capturing Ricardo. Also, he would get 1 Renown point for each of the 'Bad Hombres' killed or captured. We're all going on a Tribble hunt!

Inspired by the 'Attack Tribble' that appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Picard, I found some suitable miniatures that would lend themselves to gaming. The Attack Tribble from Star Trek: Picard I purchased these Triblite sculpts (designed by Lost Heresy) from a TwistedPinnacle3D on Etsy . The sculpts needed a little TLC upon arrival, as a few of the Triblites were misprinted. Also, some of the base rims had broken and neded repairing. Triblite Queen and Swarms protect their nest. More Triblite Swarms. I managed to create some Xenos Rampant stats for my Klingons and Triblites and had a quick game with them both. Klingons attack the Queen. Triblite Swarms charge some Klingons. Klingons find themselves surrounded by Triblites.

28mm 3d printed Star Trek style warp shuttle

Earlier this year, there was a Kickstarter run by 2nd Dynasty for some 28mm compatible spaceships. I was pleased to see that one of the ships (a shuttle) was available as a Warp Shuttle variant and looked very suitable for Star Trek. However, my initial interest was then dampened by the fact that the Kickstarter was just for the files and that you would have to print the ships yourself. Not having a 3d printer, I let my interest wane. My interest was recently renewed by a couple of threads on Lead Adventure Forum and The Miniatures Page. Another wargamer had one of the 2nd Dynasty ships custom printed for him. More importantly the printer they used was based in the UK.
