One-Day Triad: Speedpainted and Table-Ready

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been experimenting with the relatively new Army Painter Speedpaint markers, and I have to say they’ve proven to be a really handy addition to the hobby toolkit.

One of the biggest advantages is convenience, as there’s no need for water, no brush clean-up afterwards, and you can easily pick them up for a quick session while doing something else (I’ve found them perfect for a bit of painting in front of the TV). That ease of use makes them very accessible and encourages more frequent, shorter painting sessions.

As a result, they’ve noticeably sped up my overall output. For me, that’s a big win and anyone who knows me knows I paint primarily for relaxation and to get models ready for the tabletop, rather than aiming for display-level perfection. I’m not someone who wants to spend days or weeks on a single figure, so anything that helps get decent results efficiently is a welcome addition.

Which brings me neatly onto these figures. They’re Urban War Triad models that I originally picked up back in 2024 - bought via Scotia Grendel at the time, and now available through Seb Games.

Unfortunately, they ended up languishing in the unpainted pile after a bit of a cock-up with my order that was never properly resolved. It rather soured the whole thing, and as a result they were quietly left to gather dust for far longer than intended.

However, while rummaging through the pile recently, I spotted the set of 11 (should have been 12…) and thought, “Why not give the Speedpaint markers a go on these?”

The result? In the space of a single day, I managed to get all 11 figures painted, inked, and varnished. The markers did most of the heavy lifting, and I only needed to break out the brushes for some of the finer details, plus the inking and varnishing at the end.

My colour range is a bit limited, as I only have 14 Speedpaint markers at the moment, so the palette isn’t exactly vast. Even so, I’m really pleased with how they’ve come out. They’ve got a nice, cohesive look and more than do the job for tabletop standard.

Most importantly, they’ve gone from forgotten lead to fully playable, and I’m now properly looking forward to getting them on the table in a Cyberpunk game.
