The Petrol Hunt

Image
Jezza hung up the receiver and leaned against the inside of the phone box, wiping sweat from his brow. He scanned the street - nothing. No shambling corpses, no eerie groans. Just the distant hush of an empty world.   He stepped out cautiously, eyes darting left and right before making his way to the van. Another quick glance for unwanted company, then he climbed inside, pulling the passenger door shut with a firm click.   A voice came from the back of the transit.   "So, what did Del say then?"   It was Hamster, his sharp gaze peering out from beneath a well-worn flat cap.   Jezza exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. "He's gutted. Raquel didn’t make it. Came back as one of them." He hesitated. "I didn’t mention Sabine putting her down."   Hamster gave a slow nod, then asked, "And the gun? The petrol?"   Jezza grimaced. "The shotgun you found in the caravan - that was the gun." He let that sink in before continuing....

Caravan Rubbish

Jezza spat the grey lump of rubber out of his mouth. Fruit Stripe gum never lasted long on flavour, and after four days of chewing this piece, it tasted like spit and regret. He wiped his mouth and turned his attention to the scene below.   The gang stood at the edge of a steep ridge, staring down at the rusty static caravan surrounded by zombies that shuffled aimlessly in the dirt. Jezza glanced at his companions and let out a resigned sigh.   Rescue missions weren’t their style. Too much risk, not enough reward. But Del Boy had petrol - a precious three gallons - and his best gun. His precious Raquel was down there, somewhere among the undead. Bring her back, and the deal was yours. Turn 1 Jezza turned to the group, his expression tense but determined. "Raquel’s down there," he said, nodding toward the small encampment below. "She’s either in the caravan, the shed, or the Landie. We need to check all three." His voice was low, but the urgency was clear. The others...

A Cabin in the Woods

Image
It feels like a lifetime ago, but when Jezza was a kid, he used to spend time camping in a cottage owned by his Uncle Bob. Bob had a bit of a survivalist streak, and Jezza can't help but wonder if his uncle might still be alive, holed up in that same cottage. If nothing else, some of Bob's survival gear might still be there. Turn 1 After losing Tiff and with The Stig nowhere to be found, Jezza had no choice but to bring in some new recruits. Enter Sabine, a West German national stranded in the UK when the zombie outbreak hit. Armed with a knife and a pistol, she was ready for action. Joining her was Freddie, a Manchester punk who preferred to let his fists do the talking. After parking the van, Jezza surveyed the area and decided to move. Knowing Uncle Bob had a habit of stashing gear around his property, he led the gang toward the outhouse. Luck was on their side—rolling the first of fourteen sixes granted Hamster an extra action, which he used to scavenge supplies from the ou...

Random Encounters for ZombieRV (and other zombie games)

I’ve created a list of random encounters to add an extra layer of intrigue to games of ZombieRV. With a little tweaking, these encounters can easily be adapted for other zombie-themed games. To use them, roll 2d6 at the start of each turn. The first die determines the section, while the second die selects the specific entry within that section. 1   1 A barking dog runs up to a random character pursued by 1d6 Zombies 12” behind it. The dog runs off next turn. 2 One random character has packed the wrong ammo for their Shoot weapon. They only have 1 shot left with it. 3 The primary weapon of a random character suddenly falls apart and is now useless. 4 A random vehicle has its car alarm go off. Generates 6 noise tokens. Stops at the end of the turn. 5 A massive storm rolls in, reducing visibility and making ranged attacks impossible during this turn....
