How do you go from 5 figures to 25?

Image
It started with the Stargrave: Death Vector pre-order, which included a sprue of Stargrave Scavengers II , allowing me to build 5 figures. While I love the versatility of these sprues, they always leave behind a lot of unused parts, so I try to minimize plastic waste. To make use of the leftover pieces, I searched for compatible bodies and found someone selling Wargames Atlantic Cannon Fodder body sprues. A quick calculation led me to order two sprues, which let me create 10 more figures using the remaining Stargrave parts. Then came an unexpected complication - the seller had accidentally included the Cannon Fodder arms and equipment sprues under the receipt! Now I had even more parts to work with. 🙄 To use them up, I turned to Anvil Industry and ordered a pack of 10 Stormtrooper Bodies . Combining them with the Cannon Fodder sprues, I built another 10 figures. And just like that, 5 figures became 25!

Some Stargrave figures painted up

With the weather getting colder and the nights getting darker, I have been doing more painting in the evening.  I finally made a dent in the pile of Stargrave figures that I bought back in the summer.   This figure reminded me of the Justice Dept uniforms worn in the Karl Urban Dredd film. So I painted him up as a pseudo Judge.     This figure reminded me of a Bolian from the Star Trek universe, so I painted her as one. Also, she reminds me of Nebula from the Marvel films.     Lastly, we have some objective tokens. These will be useful in many games besides Stargrave.

A foray into Stargrave - Part 2

As I am getting older, the more I find the 'Beautiful Game' has become the 'Boring' game. So with Euro 2020 on in the background, I took the opportunity to paint up my Stargrave figures. See this blog entry on how I turned a sprue of five figures into fifteen! A foray into Stargrave

I managed to get a hold of a sprue of the recently released Stargrave crewmen. You get five bodies, and assortment of arms, a variety of heads and various equipment to add to them. You can see the five figures that I managed to construct below.   However, you do have a lot of unused plastic leftover. Not wanting to throw it out and not wishing to having it lying around in my bits box, I went back to Anvil Industries for some bodies.  First up, I ordered some 'jumpsuit' bodies and added various arms, heads and kit to them. Secondly, I ordered some separate legs and torsos and used the remainder of the Stargrave sprue to add some details.   So, a five figure sprue has yielded fifteen figures in total and almost used up all the sprue pieces.   No to paint them!
