Fancying a change of pace and genre, I dug out some Pulp Alley characters that we hadn't played with since 2019. Given that we no longer play Pulp Alley, I ported the characters over to the 'Fistful of Lead' rule set.
So, making a comeback after nearly 3 years, Dr Johnny Platypus and his trusty crew ventured forth.
The Gobi Desert, 1937.
Leading a palaeontological US expedition to Mongolia, Dr Johnny Platypus led academic couple Prof Stanley Chadwick and his wife Dr Laney Chadwick in their search for dinosaur bones. They were joined by their long term friend 'Digger' Bob and grad student Moses.
News of their dinosaur fossil finds has reached a local bandit group. The bandits see an opportunity to steal the dinosaur fossils and sell them on as 'Dragon' bones to the Chinese medicine trade.
Although the Americans were better armed, could the local bandits make their numbers count?
Turn 1
The fossil tokens were placed in the middle of the table. As a result, both sides gingerly advanced across the table.

Turn 2
Both sides came into sight of each other. Moses took aim with his rifle, but failed to hit a target. Laney and Stanley both attempted to pick up the precious fossils and keep them away from the bandits.

Look out!

Turn 3
Both sides engaged in hand-to-hand combat. A bandit made for Moses, who defended himself with a swish of his rifle butt, which sent the bandit out of the fight.
Whilst Laney managed to defend herself from a bandit, Stanley took potshots with his trusty pistol. Elsewhere, Johnny Platypus proved the value of bringing a shotgun to a sword fight!
Unfortunately, 'Digger' Bob fell to a sword attack.
Turn 4
A quick play of the 'Queen of Hearts' and a fallen bandit was able to recover and successfully shoot Johnny twice – wounding him and inflicting shock. Another bandit successfully attacked Johnny, inflicting yet more shock tokens. As a result, Johnny tried to crawl away to safety.
Laney continued to protect a fossil from a bandit, however, her husband was targetted by the bandit leader and fell to repeated shots from his pistol. Elsewhere, Moses came under attack from two bandits and succumbed to their blows.
Turn 5
Things were looking good for the bandits, and got even better when Stanley and Johnny Platypus both failed their respective recovery rolls and went 'out of the fight'.
This left Laney as the sole survivor, and she fought valiantly to the end, eventually succumbing to successive melee attacks.

The victorious bandits celebrate

A massive win for the bandits. They captured all the fossils and fought off the expedition, whilst suffering a handful of casualties.
Feeling confident, the next goal of the bandits is to raid the expedition base camp!
