This is another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead'.
In this adventure, two rival gangs are on the hunt for the legendary treasure of the notorious bank robber, Possum Gus Guthrie. The loot is hidden in a rugged, hilly area and scattered across multiple burial spots. Both gangs must search the terrain for clues to locate it.
To complicate matters, the treasure lies in the heart of sacred Native American hunting grounds, and the locals are far from pleased with these trespassers. Their goal: drive the intruders out.
Turn 1
Both sides advanced, with the large hill in the center obstructing their line of sight. As a result, gunfire was limited.
Turn 2
Starting from the second turn, an unfriendly native enters the table each round. We used a D4 to randomly determine where they’d appear. Unfortunately for me, the native showed up right behind my gang, allowing my opponent to take control. Without hesitation, the native charged forward, axe in hand, and engaged Cowboy Smith. Caught off guard, Smith was knocked down and wounded.
Both gangs scrambled to reach the central treasure token, with Two-Gun Duggen getting there just ahead of Jack Horne. Duggen took steady aim and managed to wound the mountain man.
Turn 3
More natives arrived on the scene. Luckily for the gangs, the natives' old muskets proved to be highly inaccurate. This prompted a shift in tactics, with the natives advancing to engage the gang members in close combat.
Sam Chisholm swiftly handles an approaching native with precision.
Hank takes down another native with a well-aimed shot.
Turn 4
Against all odds, one of the natives successfully passed a recovery roll. Meanwhile, across the table, the rest of the natives are becoming a growing nuisance.
On the hill, Jack Horne, with his trusty rifle, takes his revenge on Duggen, knocking the cowboy "Out of the fight".
Turn 5
As more natives emerge, Sam Chisholm and Goodnight Robicheaux come under musket fire.
Meanwhile, another native challenges Jack Horne on the hill, engaging him in a hand-to-hand fight that will be decided by who wields an axe with greater skill.
Turn 6
Another native advances toward Jack Horne. Triggered by his bloodthirsty trait, Jack charges down the hill to engage in close combat. The native stands no chance and is swiftly dispatched.
Turn 7
Jack Horne's luck finally runs out as a musket shot from a native hits its mark, bringing the mountain man down "Out of the Fight." Sam Chisholm cries out in despair, torn by the opportunity to escape with a treasure chest. Instead, he chooses to stay behind, determined to defend Jack Horne and Red Harvest.
Turn 8
With only two gang members remaining on the table, the natives swarm toward Sam Chisholm. Eventually, their sheer numbers overwhelm the gang leader, leaving him wounded and on the ground. Sensing the tide of the battle shifting, Red Harvest decides to retreat, carrying a treasure chest with him.
Turn 9
Wounded and on the ground, Sam Chisholm is quickly dispatched by the natives. Their sacred ground has been successfully defended against the encroaching gangs.
The game concluded, leaving only the task of calculating the treasure found in the recovered chests.
Rolling on the table, The Magnificent Seven secured 13 Renown Points worth of treasure, while Marshal Bill and his gang managed to recover 16 Renown Points of treasure.
In terms of manpower, The Magnificent Seven suffered losses with Sam Chisholm, Jack Horne, and Goodnight Robicheaux falling mainly to the natives.
Marshal Bill’s gang experienced fewer losses, with only Duggen and Smith being casualties, while the remaining members managed to escape the table with their treasure.
Good to see you getting a game in! Looks like a bloody one with no one willing to cut and run...
