The Lost Boys

"The Lost Boys" is a cult classic horror-comedy from 1987, directed by Joel Schumacher. It’s a stylish blend of teen angst, vampire mythology, and rock 'n' roll attitude, all set in the fictional coastal town of Santa Carla, California—a place with a serious vampire problem.

After moving to Santa Carla, brothers Michael and Sam Emerson quickly realize the town isn’t just weird - it’s dangerous. Michael gets drawn into a gang of mysterious, leather-clad youths led by the enigmatic David, and after a fateful night involving some suspicious wine (read: vampire blood), he begins to change.

Meanwhile, Sam teams up with the eccentric Frog Brothers, self-proclaimed vampire hunters who suspect something sinister is lurking beneath the town’s laid-back vibe. As Michael wrestles with his transformation, Sam and the Frogs race to uncover the truth and save him. The only way to break the curse? Kill the head vampire. But figuring out who that is… well, that’s where things get twisty.

Back in 2024, I backed a Kickstarter by Hayland Terrain called "Santa Cruz Crew" - a brilliant set of 28mm Horror & Survivors Metal Miniatures inspired by The Lost Boys. These sculpts capture most of the film’s iconic characters and were destined for use in "When Nightmares Come: An Investigative Wargame of Supernatural Horror" - though I’ve yet to get a game in.

  • Paul, Dwayne, Marko (Brooke McCarter, Billy Wirth, Alex Winter) David’s crew, each with their own flair. (Painting note: Marko’s jacket was a nightmare, and Dwayne’s leopard sleeve detail? I did my best!)

The miniatures come in both human and vampire forms, which is a fantastic touch for gameplay and display. I’m itching to get them on the table - just need to carve out time for a proper session.

The Wayfinder dropped out of hyperspace with a shimmer of stretched starlight snapping back into stars. Brains deftly guided the aging freighter through reentry, hands dancing across the control panel. “I’ve got the beacon. Plotting for the settlement now.” Cap’in leaned over his shoulder, eyes scanning the glowing readouts.
