A Star Trek themed game of Galactic Heroes last night

This game was based on the 'Bug Hunt' scenario available in the Galactic Heroes rulebook. Instead of using the published Xenos, we replaced them with Borg.

The Borg

Shoot: N/A

Close Combat: D12

Traits

Soulless: Never take Shock results. Anyone targeting you gets +1 to their Shoot role.

Brute: Use a D12 for Close Combat rolls.

Solid as a Rock – You are never pushed back or moved in Close Combat.

Slow - -1 to movement actions.

Weapons

Capture: Any crew member taken ‘Out of Action’ must be left on the table. If a Borg touches them, they are converted into a Borg (replace the crew member with a Borg).

Upgrade: If a Borg is Wounded, roll a D10. On an 8+, the Borg have adapted to that form of attack and cannot be harmed by that kind of weapon.

As per the published scenario, the Away Team started in the middle of one edge. The Borg were represented by the green blip markers and a card would be dealt for each marker. Once the Away Team had line of sight to a marker, it was turned over to confirm whether it was a borg or not.

The Away Team had two goals. The first was to stop the reactor (bottom right) from going critical and the second was to signal a shuttle topick them up (bottom left).

Turn 1

The Away team advanced, bringing them into line of sight of a few markers. Fortunately, they only revealed one Borg.

Turn 2

More markers were revelaed and Borg drones started to appear. Unfortunately, the Away team medic lost a close combat with a drone and found himself turning into a Borg.

The Vulcan Science Officer suffered a wound in Close Combat and collasped to the floor.

Turn 3

This is where the card and dice gods intervened.

Armed with Phasers set to kill (ie Deadly). The Away Team phasered a couple of Drones. The Borg not adapting to the energy weapons.

A tense situation suddenly became relaxed as the Away Team rolled natural 10s and avoiding the need for Wound rolls. The Borg were down to a single Drone.

Turns 4, 5 & 6

With the Vulcan Science Officer restored with the Queen of Hearts, she and the Human Commad Officer sped off to their respective objectives.

The remaining Borg Drone successfully recovered but subsequently lost another Close Combat and was Knocked Down again.

The three remaining Starfleet personnel made it back to the extraction point to complete the mission.

Epilogue

Not so many photos this time and the above photos were taken from our second run of the game. Interestingly, in both games the Starfleet medic got assimilated and the Away Team won out.

Despite looking formidable on paper, the Borg suffered from poor cards and dice rolls and failed to make much of an impact. Maybe next time, resistance will be futile!
