Massacre at Briar's Bend - A Fistful of Lead Game
Another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' with the third scenario "Massacre at Briar's Bend". This time, Marshal Bill and his Posse get to have a rest, as for this scenario, it is Native American Braves versus the US Cavalry.
A Cavalry patrol has set up camp amongst some rocks by a river. The Cavalry are armed with (not so trusty) carbines and pistols. In this scenario, if a carbine suffers a '1' when shooting, the player rolls a dice and if the result is odd, then suffers an additional 'out of ammo' token.
The Braves start in two group of 5, in the opposite corners not covered by woods.
To add a bit of drama to the game, the game length would only be determined at the start of Turn 6. Rolling a D10, a result of 1-6 would mean the game lasts 6 turns, any other result would the number of turns the game lasts.
The Braves on the other side of the river used both their turns to advance to the river.
The Braves on the Cavalry side of the river advanced. In their excitement, a couple of Braves fired their muskets. Unfortunately, their musket fire was ineffective and the return Cavalry fire put one Brave 'out of the fight' and another wounded. First blood to the Cavalry!
During Turn 2, some of the Braves started to ford the river.
Over by the rocks, a firefight broke out. Musket fire being ineffective against the carbines, with more Braves being wounded or going 'out of the fight'.
One Brave infiltrated the campsite and took down a Cavalryman with his musket.
Turn 3 saw some Cavalrymen pinned against the rocks. They gave a good account of themselves, putting two Braves 'out of the fight' and another seriously wounded.
Having successfully crossed the river, the group of Braves infiltrated the camp.
Carbine fire eliminated another Brave.
Elsewhere, a pair of Cavalrymen were engaged in melee by a pair of Braves. The net result was one Brave and Cavalryman put 'out of the fight'.
A trio of Braves all took the opportunity to fire their muskets. Unfortunately, all missed.
At the start of Turn 5, two Braves engaged two Cavalryman in melee, managing to put one 'out of the fight'.
A lone Cavalryman found himself in a melee with two Braves. Neither side inflicting a killer blow.
Turn 6 saw two Braves attack the wounded Cavalryman on the floor. Repeated blows sent the Cavalryman 'out of the fight'.
The remaining Cavalryman was in a melee against two Braves. In a round of melee, the Cavalryman suffered another 'shock' result. Having more 'shock' than wounds, led to the Cavalryman retreating two full moves out of melee into the nearby woods. The remaining Braves pursued him into the woods.
Having rolled the dice at the start of turn, we knew that this turn was the last. The Braves managed to earn 22 Renown points (4 kills at 5 points each + 1 wounded at 2 points) and the Cavalry earnt 12 Renown points (6 kills at 2 points each), so a resounding win for the Braves.
