Solo Zombie Game 1 - Supply Run

Found some time for my first solo zombie game this weekend. Using my ideas defined here, I set up my first scenario.

This was to be a simple supply run. My band of survivors had six turns in which to investigate the three supply markers. Each marker would take one action to search. The zombies would initially be deployed in front of the workshop and move based on my rules (see link above).

My survivors comprised a Leader and two Specialists.

Andy - Leader Sh d12 CC d12
  • Leader
  • Tough as Nails
  • Veteran
  • Lucky
Pistol (6"/12") & Knife.

Dwayne - Specialist Sh d10 CC d10
  • Deadeye
  • Deft
Pistol (6"/12").

Mac - Specialist Sh d10 CC d10
  • Thundering Charge
  • Running Attack

Knife.

Overview of the playing area

Starting point for my survivors

Two of the supply markers are on the left-hand side of the playing area, the other is the top right-hand side.

The 1st turn was spent moving into cover behind the junk piles and then waiting to see where the zombies random movement would take them.

Hide-and-seek!

As hoped, the zombies randomly wandered around. Unfortunately for Dwayne (Green cap, red hoodie), two zombies wandered over to the supply marker nearest to him. Another two zombies ambled over to the other side of the junk pile where Andy and Mack were hiding.

At the start of turn 2, Dwayne decided to use his trusted pistol on the two zombies in front of him. His first shot was a miss, but his second shot took out one of the zombies. However, the use of a firearm may attract other zombies to the area. Andy took the chance to run up to the remaining zombie and put it out of the fight with his trusty knife.

Never bring just a knife to a zombie fight!

Seeing Andy do this, Mac felt inspired to attack one of the zombies on the other side of the junk pile. Unfortunately, the dice rolls meant that Mac was in close combat with a zombie at the end of the turn.

Ouch!
Things went bad to worse for the survivors. Seeing Mac fighting a zombie attracted other zombies within 12". Even with slow trait, five zombies managed to reach Mac. The first zombie suffered a wound and got knocked down, but the rest of the attacking zombies managed to overwhelm Mac, and he went out of the fight.

Zombie chow!

The 3rd turn saw Andy and Dwayne successfully search two of the supply markers.

Fortunately, for my survivors, the majority of the zombies present were still feasting on the remains of Mac. However, a couple of zombies were now aware of Andy and Dwayne and moved towards them.

At the start of the fourth turn, Dwayne used both his actions to run towards the other supply marker. Andy was now in a dilemma, if he used both actions to move, he would be in range of a couple of zombies. If he stayed where he was, he could shoot at two zombies, but risk attracting more to his position. Regrettably, I decided on a middle course of action. I used the first action to move Andy and then used his second action to shoot at a zombie. Even, with 'Lucky', Andy missed the zombie and attracted another towards him.

Uh oh!

Entering the zombie phase, Andy got into close combat with a zombie and neither could deliver a killer blow.

Entering turn five, things got worse for my survivors. Andy attempted to defeat the zombie he was in close combat with. Again, the dice rolls failed him. Using 'Lucky' to re-roll, led to an even worse result and Andy ultimately went out of the fight. This led the zombies to feast on Andy!

More chow!

With the zombies preoccupied with the bodies of Mac and Andy, this gave Dwayne the opportunity to search the remaining supply marker.

Job done!

Despite having a shock token, Dwayne put the nearest zombie down and then used his second action to leave the game area.

All in all, a pyrrhic victory for the survivors. Andy and Mac were both lost to the zombies, but all three supply markers were successfully searched and Dwayne ended up with 3RP.

  1. Nice write-up and miniatures! FfoL is a cool ruleset, I use it as well for solo games.
