Solo Zombie Game 2 - Shut the Gate!

OK, still in lockdown, so time for another solo zombie game. This time around, Dwayne and a couple of survivors have been tasked with securing a potential new supply area. All they have to do is secure the gates to stop zombies from entering. Sounds easy!

Joining Dwayne this time were Melissa (Leader) and Willis.

The playing area

The three survivors started at the bottom of the playing area. The gate they needed to close was at the top of the playing area. All that needed to happen was to successfully close the gate and leave the playing area by any table edge.

10 zombies

All that stood between the survivors and the gate was 10 zombies. The zombies would be reinforced by two new zombies for as long as the gate was open. There was no turn limit in place.

The first turn was spent getting into position, with the survivors hiding behind the central wall. Without a focal point, the zombies then dispersed in random directions.

Onto the second turn. With the zombies split evenly between left and right, it was time to make a move for the gate. Melissa successfully killed a zombie in close combat. Willis (armed with an SMG) decided to use burst fire on the two other zombies. Despite needing a 5+ to successfully hit, Willis failed. Feeling brave, Dwayne decided to shoot at the zombies, taking one down with his first hit, but completely missing the second zombie.

Now it was time for the zombies to act. The use of firearms attracted an additional two zombies to the playing area. The zombies at the gate headed towards the sound and spotted Melissa. Fortunately, their movement just fell short of engaging her in close combat.

Poor Dwayne was not so lucky. The zombie he shot and missed at, then moved up and engaged him in close combat. Unfortunately, the zombie rolled high on a d8 and Dwayne rolled low on a d10. Rolling on the wound chart, Dwayne was 'out of the fight'. The only saving grace being the zombies did not feast on him!

The third turn started with one survivor down already. Melissa activated first and carefully ran to behind one of the open gates. Willis on the other hand, decided to be a bit more gung-ho. He opened fire on the zombies and managed to draw them in his direction. Despite needing a 5+ to hit, Willis rolled low again.

Rolling for whom the zombies would veer towards, Willis found himself in trouble as they headed in his general direction.

Activating first, Melissa used her first action to shut half of the gate and her second to back away from the zombies entering the gate.

However, Willis was in trouble. He was being faced down by 6 zombies. Deciding to use burst fire again with minimal success, going out of ammo and only knocking down two zombies.

The zombies activated. It was ugly! Engaged in multiple close combats, Willis went down under the onslaught. With the zombies, this time feeding on poor Willis.

The zombies by the gate attacked Melissa and despite some valiant fighting, she suffered a shock and a wound token.

Turn five was looking grim for the survivors. Dwayne and Willis out. Melissa down. Could fortunes be reversed? Activating on a Queen of Hearts, Melissa stood up, brushed herself down and attacked the nearest zombie. Despite suffering -1 from the shock token, Melissa successfully knocked down two zombies.

The remaining zombie by the gate activated and attached Melissa. Big mistake! Her knife knocking down another zombie.

With a sizeable amount of zombies occupied by eating Willis, it would come down to Melissa to try to save the day in turn six.

With the zombies knocked down on the floor, Melissa skipped past them and used her second action to shut remaining gate.

Melissa eventually got off the playing area without further incident.

Another pyrrhic victory for the survivors. Willis and Dwayne both out of the fight. Because Dwayne was not feasted on by the zombies, he was able to roll on the post game table. Eventually getting a 'Shot full of holes' result. This meant he missed the next game and suffers a negative trait. Melissa earned 3RP for completing the mission.
